Arctic Challenge

Arctic challengeTemperatures of -25 degrees centigrade, awaited the participants of the second ELF Arctic Challenge as they flew out of Heathrow on the 8th January 2006 to spend the week surviving in the Tundra of Northern Sweden. A programme of building shelters; fishing; driving husky sleds and snowmobiles awaited the intrepid travellers. After a year of preparation and countless fundraising events the ELF Arctic Challenge 2006 finally took place.

The expedition was organised by Devon based Intrepid Expeditions, owned by Nigel Startin who led the group with fellow former Royal Marine, Kim Phillips.

Peter Wallace, ELF Fundraising Officer, said “It really is a physical challenge but thoroughly
enjoyable. The scenery is fantastic and it was a pleasure to spend a week away with such a fungroup”.

Special thanks to the Royal Marines based in Lympstone for once again loaning us sleeping bags, bivvy bags and bed rolls. This is a huge help to all our volunteers taking part in the Challenge.

We are now launching the ELF Arctic Challenge 2007 and seek ten adventurous individuals to sign up for the challenge, which is to take place between 6-13 January 2007.
