Heavy rain welcomed the Morriston Orpheus Choir to the
Great Hall at the University of Exeter for a performance with St Margaret’s School Choir and Swing Band in aid of the Exeter Leukaemia Fund in the presence of the Lord Mayor of Exeter, Councillor Wadham and Mrs Wadham. This is the second time that these two award winning and nationally reknown choirs have performed for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund which provides equipment; patient care and research into the management and monitoring of leukaemia and related blood diseases.
The first act featured the Morriston Orpheus Choir conducted by their Musical Director, Sian Pearce. The choir were in excellent voice especially their rendition of “The Anvil Chorus” from Il Trovatore and “Morte Christie”.
Both the Melisma and Cantata Choirs of St Margaret’s School sang arrangements of favourite
carols and introduced a carol, “Born is Hope” written by Brendan Ashe, husband of Musical
Director, Miranda Ashe, before the Swing Band with Director, Stan Hacking, had everyone
tapping their feet and clapping along, especially to Glen Miller’s classic “In the Mood”.
The last Act brought back the Morriston Orpheus Choir with “It’s a Grand
Night for Singing” and songs from other shows before “Thank You’s” from Exeter Leukaemia Fund and led into the Finale with the Morriston Orpheus Choir singing the Welsh National Anthem and many encores to The rain had ceased bringing a crisp frosty night as the coaches took the Morriston Orpheus Choir back to Wales.
Our thanks to the Morriston Orpheus Choir, Musical Director, Sian Pearce; Accompaniest; Joy Amman Davies and Organist; Tudur Jones and to St Margaret’s School Choir, Musical Director; Miranda Ashe; Swing Band Director; Stan Hacking and Accompaniest; Peter Adcock.
