Steve Rider is pictured with regional sports personalities, Lucie Ahl, Ian Bremner, Barry McConnell, Dean Moxey and Jo Pavey at the third “Evening with Steve Rider” at the Woodbury Park Golf and Country Club on Thursday 20 October 2005. Steve Rider started his talk by announcing that he would be moving from the BBC to ITV to present their formula one coverage, we wish him all the best with this move.
More than 150 guests enjoyed a meal and almost two hours of stories from all over the world ranging across golf to the Olympics via rugby, tennis and football. Ably assisted by Jo Pavey who reflected on her past athletic year, Ian Bremner who gave details
of the Exeter Chiefs new ground and Lucie Ahl who talked about running the London Marathon for ELF in 2005. We were also delighted to have Dean Moxey and Barry McConnell, from Exeter City Football club, who fielded questions about football.
An auction of sports memorabilia including a cricket bat signed by the Surrey County Cricket Club Squad, a signed football from Manchester United, a signed cycling top from Chris Hoy and a signed rugby shirt from Gavin Henson.
Thanking Steve Rider, Malcolm Roker, Chief Executive of ELF, pointed out that it was the generosity of people such as Steve Rider, Lucie Ahl, Ian Bremner, Dean Moxey, Barry McConnell and Jo Pavey as well as the guests who supported us so superbly which helped ELF raise almost £500,000 every year to meet the growing demands of leukaemia sufferers in the South West.
The evening was a great success and raised over £3000 for ELF.
