Donated money is spent on new equipment, facilities to make treatment more comfortable for both patients and carers and research into methods of managing and monitoring leukaemia and related blood diseases carried out at the hospital.
Exeter Leukaemia Fund will benefit from a week long fund raising event at the Fishermans Cot, Bickleigh.
Charity week at the Fishermans Cot, Bickleigh, Devon commences on the 9th of March 2008 and runs until the 15th. Staff at the Cot will be running daily fun events to raise money for local charity ELF.
In addition Head Chef Jon Cruwys has been contacting local suppliers such as Complete Meats of Axminster and Dartmouth Smokehouse to provide high quality local produce with which he will create an exciting Regional Specials Menu. This menu will run for the duration of charity week and for every special sold we will be donating 10% of the cost of the dish directly to ELF. Thursday evening sees general manager Warren Zilch hosting a Poker Night.
Friday evening, the Cot’s very own Miranda Maryan Lewis will be providing live music to accompany diners. Saturday 15th between 12pm and 3pm - children are invited to `Kids at the Cot’ - a fun 3 hours with bouncy castle, treasure hunt, beat the goalie and much much more - all proceeds going to ELF.
On 22 October 1987 the Deed of Trust establishing Exeter Leukaemia Fund as a Charity was signed and registered. More than £4 million has been contributed to Haematology treatment at the RD&E since and the Haematology Centre, for which ELF two thirds of the funding (£1.5 million), is recognised as one of the best in Europe.
A number of special events have taken place and are being organised to celebrate 20 Years of ELF. Events will incorporate the 20 Years of ELF brand and special logo and culminate with ELF’s 21st Birthday Party in October. It is hoped that this year of celebration will raise a substantial sum which will be used to enhance patient care; refurbish the gardens at the Centre and fund new research building on the diagnostic tests already
delivered which can only enhance the treatment of leukaemia and related disorders.
